Kicking down barriers to winter sports

Share Winter Foundation (SWF) works to get more kids from underrepresented communities skiing and snowboarding. Through grantmaking and partnerships that reduce participation barriers into these expensive activities, SWF improves the lives, health and fitness of underrepresented youth.

“There are massive barriers right now, more than ever before,” says CEO Constance Beverley. “We break them down one by one. Too cold? We partner with organizations who collect warm jackets. No one to go with? We fund programs run through established community centers like the local YMCAs. No people who look like you? We drum up support from mentors throughout the neighborhoods who connect with the kids and provide good role models.”

Share Winter Foundation’s Work

SWF’s operating expenses are covered by a private family foundation, so all money raised is given out to programs. By 2028, SWF aims to get 100,000 youth on snow. In the 2021/22 season, SWF had many victories:

  • Engaged with 37,000+ youth in 22 States
  • Hosted 172 Nordic Rocks school programs, teaching kits to Nordic ski
  • 49 grantees which include NGOs, parks and recreation organizations, and tribal communities
